Positivity vs Negativity

Man...I can think so many negative things that have happened in August BUT...
Really the positive outway the negative, may not seem like it but it does! You just have to flip the way you look at things!
Positive things in August and even last couple of months:
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
•Family is all healthy!
•I have all the people I need in my life that love and support me.
•I’ve started on my last semester of undergraduate!
•new opportunities
•I have a great job that I love!
•I am happy and almost have spent 6 years with my best friend.
•Lively H farms is blessed with good employees and good looking crops and healthy cattle.
•I am blessed with healthy flock, and horse, and puppies!
•deer season is NEAR!
•Harvest is NEAR!
•Friends are healthy, happy, getting new jobs, having healthy babies, getting married etc!
•Thankful for food on the table every night!
•I have a good hometown, who goes above and beyond to come together and help those in need!
•we’ve had a good amount of rain for plants/crops to make a plentiful crop at harvest!
•Memories!

And not last (I could write for days) but very important...

•Walmart hasn’t been out of potstickers all month(addiction is real)

Things I have learned this month:
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
•chase your goals and dreams-always!
•always believe in yourself!
•it’s okay for things to take time, because when the time is right it will be meant to be!
•it’s okay to cry, when your overwhelmed!
•rams can beat you up if your trying to trim their hoof!
•spiny amaranth can go straight through your glove when your pulling it out of a fence-row! Should’ve learned last year after weeding my garden, since I dumped cow manure all over it! Weeds took off to!
•I do not have to please everyone!
•I CANNOT give up DR.PEPPER. I think I’m an addict!
•Time for YOURSELF is IMPORTANT!
•people that don’t support you or bring you down, you don’t need them.
•it’s okay to shut off for a bit, when you get home, it’s okay to put your pjs on and do nothing every once in awhile.
•horse flies have been terrible this summer!
•this is a big one....it’s okay to say NO
This is something I never do but then complained or was stressed when all I had to do was say no, you don’t have to please everyone!
•it’s good to brush you hair every once and awhile and put yourself together!
•it’s okay to open a new gate in your life or close another! New adventures, another chapter, a closed chapter!
•people still know who you are in Walmart with a mask on.. so avoiding anyone or trying to get in and out quick won’t happen:)

The list can go on and on.. but I’m gonna leave this here!

So as many of you know Lively H Farms is all about No-Till farming and has been since papa started farming here in the United States!
The University of Kentucky is conducting a study testing nutrient run off in no-till fields!
This is a 10 year study and one of the locations is right here at Lively H Farms!
The boys have been busy building berms with NRCS to control the flow of water into the measuring apparatus!
There are 4 flumes, with 2 berms on each side!
This project is funded by the USDA!
I am excited to see the results of this project!
Here are a few photos so far, cannot wait to show you all more and fill you in with more information!
Stay tuned!

A day full of....

A day full of chores, class, more chores, daisy and now on to homework after supper!
Daisy update: we have been working hard the last week! We are both working on our attitudes although I think daisy is winning! Oops!
These cool mornings have been perfect for improvement and work! Lunging, and working on listening to commands more..like: woah, changing directions, and watching me!
We have officially learned how to stay out of my bubble and off my feet when leading!
She has been doing very good with and without saddle!
So tomorrow me and daisy have another date in the morning, but curveball I’m getting back in the saddle!
If things don’t go as planned we will keep pushing and working together!
Sometimes just like in life it’s hard breaking habits and relearning things! Patience and dedication is key and of course rewards(treats and lovings).
Now. The one thing I have learned about myself is I’m so out of shape, I need to be the one on the other side of the line!
But hey we are in this together!
Get me fit daisy girl

goodMOOrning,
These heifers had all there vaccinations and fly tags back in May!
We didn’t do number tags on heifers then because we weren’t sure which we were going to keep for Lively H!
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
So..I gave the heifers new jewelry this morning!
Missed a few when I let the big boy(the bull) out of the gate but it’s okay I’ll get them tomorrow!
These heifers are in a separate pasture with our brown limousine bull!
They all should be bred except one unless the bull was sneaky and we didn’t see it! Calves due May and beginning of June! Ready to check!
Have a great Wednesday!

Not sure who is my favorite.. Reba or Cheyenne...
Reba just wanted the sweet feed, Cheyenne took the feed then let me love on her.
Fun facts: Cheyenne really likes to be rubbed behind her ears!
Cheyenne will be 5 months old soon! Rebas first lamb, I cannot wait to see her raise many more!!

29 days until FALL

8/24/2020

Fall is just around the corner...29 days

The crisp mornings have began, tree leaves are falling to the ground, corn is drying out, tobacco has been topped and some has already been cut and housed in the barn.

Hay is being cut, raked and baled, and stored for winter feeding, fall calving has began, hopefully lambing soon and gardens have got pumpkins, gourds oh my!

We noticed this week our first soybeans that were planted on April 16, are starting to dry out and before long those leaves will be on the ground to!

From green to gold around here!
Harvest time is coming!

Time to get our equipment and start getting everything ready!

Farmers stay busy year round but getting closer to harvest time again. Remember slow down when passing combines, tractors, semis etc.

Wave and smile, when passing, no middle finger gestures or stupid driving.

Pray for all farmers for a plentiful harvest, good weather, no breakages and safety and most importantly be thankful!

Admire the beauty that’s going on...in and around the fields! Roll the windows down, take photos!

Be thankful and grateful it’s that time of the year!

Today I bush hogged!

Although there is still more to do! It was so peaceful! Watching the cows graze and calves play, could be one of my favorite things!

Also got down in the book one heifer that was for sure bred today! Stay tuned for next May and beginning of June! All heifers should be calving!
Cannot wait!

Overall it was a good day hanging out with the cows in the pasture!

The only thing that could’ve made today better would’ve been killing the copperhead, I ran over but instead it escaped! I HATE SNAKES!

Shirt has me in my feelings this morning...

8/18/2020

You know my shirt today says:
“Live like someone left the gate open”

I feel like this whole year of 2020 many people feel like their gate has been closed. Not being able to do this or that, how many things you typically would’ve already done or had planned this summer have been called off or put to a halt...

You know I got to thinking...

Some cows will run out of the gate when it’s open, and some just run straight through the fence and then some will stay in because they know that’s there home or were they should be.

Or like my sheep the gate doesn’t even have to be open to search for new opportunities. It’s okay to step out once and a while, find yourself and keep pushing!

Reflecting back on 2020 I feel like since this whole corona virus madness has started. I have been able to do more things with my family, making more memories, and be on the farm more and doing things for me, projects, planning etc.
I am forever thankful!

Just because you may feel like the gate is closed and you can’t do what you want...

Look beyond that...open another gate, there is plenty in the pasture\life!

Do what you can right now, don’t stop in your tracks and do nothing. Spend that quality time with family, make time for YOU, maybe think about something you’ve wanted to change in your life but you haven’t felt like you have had the time!!

Chase your dreams, make the best of life right now! Make stories to tell everyone in 20 years, this could be the worst year of your life but it doesn’t have to be.

In fact 2020, could be the biggest year of your life!

I needed a pep talk this morning with myself, I’m on the struggle bus right now! Things are very different and not going as hoped or planned, but I cannot let that stop me pushing through things, reaching goals, and yet still enjoying life!

Wanted to share with you all!
Have a great Tuesday!

Truth be told...

Truth be told me and daisy have had a ruff last month! I got daisy in the middle of June!
I have wanted a horse all of my life, but that was a quick no and I couldn’t talk papa into one because he is allergic!
In 2009 I really asked for one and that was the time of the ice storm and I got one lol, a statue. Haha
We had no power, I had to cancel my birthday party and was upset. Papa made me a cake on the grill, iced it and put a horse on top, and that was the closest I got to getting a horse!
I LOVED riding with friends, and was ready to just get a horse of my own. I was planning to get a horse as soon as I got a farm.
But the opportunity came a little early, and I jumped on it! Daisy is a 19 year old Tennessee Walking horse!
I knew she would be a project horse but I have and was willing to work with her!
But recently she has started bucking, before getting on and continuing as your on! Or opposite she will ride a bit then when she decides she is done she tries to get you off!
Daisy stands to be saddle and was leading with rider on her well! We had just began bit and no lead, other than in round pen!
The problem I’m facing:
I’m stubborn and so is she, I do not want to give up on her! The people I bought her from suggested for her to be a broadmare. But she saddle so easy, I was like we are going to re-break her!
Last month I was so annoyed, I put her up for discussion/sale! It was a ruff day and followed with a lot of bucking and stubbornness!
This week she has a vet appointment to see what is going on, to see if it’s something like an adjustment in her back.
Hoping this is the case, because she was doing so good!
At first we thought it could be the bit (maybe needed her teeth floated) but she didn’t do it before when we rode her and now she is doing it with and without a bit!
Here’s to hoping it’s a simple fix, and not just a bad habit. I want to keep her! But being very honest I get very nervous when she bucks, especially because she is not as steady on her feet.
I wish I could say I was a badass, and didn’t get scared and ready for the NFR. But that would be 100% false.
You know bad habits aren’t easy to fix, trust me I have plenty like biting my nails.
If the time comes that I do need to sell her if it is just a bad habit. I hope she goes to a loving home whether it be to ride, or a broadmare! If we cannot fix the bucking she needs a more experienced rider. I just have grown attached in just these few months and. I do not want to give up yet!
Happy Sunday!
Here’s to chasing challenges this week, and hopefully overcoming them and not giving up!
