The difference...
Although we still have to work with calf on other teats on the other side... Calf today drank on both teats on left side, mainly front left but look at the difference! Guidance and help still... but baby boy, is so close, he still got most of a bottle today just to make sure he was full! How we know he is full? Well once he takes no interest in sucking anymore or starts playing with bottle teat or moms teat. On to this afternoon, our hopes are only half a bottle will be needed and rest will come from momma! Patience is key!

Update on calf, it's about time to give him a name...
Mom has been paired up with him, we tried to milk her this morning to relieve pressure, the only teat that wasn't clogged was the back left teat! But calf still can't drink from it! Calf will continue to be bottle fed until mom is better and then hopefully she will take him still! This is one of the reasons she is in the pen with him! She's a very good momma, very gentle! Along with being fed today calf got a paste in its mouth that has probiotics, enzyme and vitamins and helps with digestion! Some calves off to sale!
All bull calf's BUT one crazy heifer, I tried to keep her but she is a little wild! But that's what makes cattle fun..well until they have the first calf and say they need assistance, but instead of being willing to let you help they jump the fence with calf hanging out... True story, about three years ago and now we try to limit the crazies around here.. Moo Monday!
This sweet bull calf went from laying in the bushes and not very active.. To being spunky! This little guy just had a whole bottle of colostrum, and in the pen tonight! In the morning we will get his mom up, and in pen with baby! Mom has mastitis, going to give her some meds tomorrow and maybe see if we can milk her a bit so calf can drink from her! Stay tuned for next post, sweet video and happy calf! Flock Friday!
Meet my "problem child" A couple of months ago you would've never known she was around! Now.. She gets out anywhere...If the outside motion light comes on at night she is probably out.. Honestly sometimes I don't even worry about putting her back in the field because she just stays around the house. I think I know now, how my mom said as I got older I got more stubborn and harder to deal with.. Karma has came back to me, with my sheep. I arrived just before a sprinkle of rain with ice cream!
Papa said it would be a late night, but think the rain may be coming in sooner than we thought! Hopefully the ice cream will cheer him up! Don't worry granny was taken care of too! Worked some cows this morning , and then the boys started planting at 10!
Papas monitor wasn't working properly so while Aaron was looking at it and fixing it, me and papa checked seed depth! Now both are back in tractors and I'm headed to get them food! Happy Tuesday! So much going on around Lively H, but today planters are going on the field and filled with seed!
Plant 2020 start date April 16! Tis the season for starting late nights planting and spraying, a smile on papas face and the boys, unless something breaks! BUT hopefully we got that out of the way last Wednesday night.. Meanwhile also today..
Just before a chance of rain tomorrow! What the flock! (shirt sneak peek)
Twins are doing great! Left is the boy Right is the girl, she's got droopy ears (makes it easy to tell them apart)! Today planted..
Next this week will be flowers and plants for flower garden, or indoor plants. Today I started with Coleus and Marigolds Challenge today: Can you identify this seed? Hint: it's one of the ones I planted today. Happy Saturday! Went to check on the new lambs, all doing great! I think little miss Cheyenne, is a pro at taking photos all ready! She's very friendly and lots of energy! I'm a proud grandparent! Reba is such a good mom! Happy Thursday!
We've got new twins around here born this morning! Ewe is doing good! She had a boy and a girl lamb! Boy was the first one born and has drank! The girl hasn't, I've got them locked up and hoping little girl finds milk soon! She needs the colostrum! If not I will try and help guide or try and milk ewe for colostrum and give in a bottle! SECOND, case scenario run to tractor supply and get colostrum replacer and milk. I would prefer she get it from her mom! Update:
Both babies are drinking! Mom needed help with afterbirth, she was dragging it and stepping on it, so I helped her get it out! She's doing good, up and eating, I've let them out and will check on them throughout the day. Then will put them up together tonight! What a day
Around 5 o'clock I started doing my chores, and fed sheep! Then grabbed the two twins born today and ewe and locked them in pen! Put up a heat lamp for them tonight and tomorrow nights while it's cooler at night.(less than 40) Then put out a mineral block and grabbed hay and water for ewe in pen! Then checked on Reba, since you guys know I have been waiting on her for like ever! She was fine and eating. Soooo.... I went in and took a shower. Then came back outside in my pajamas to check on twin lambs to make sure they were both drinking. (Random fun fact: I normally feed in my pajamas in the morning cause why not) As soon as I walked outside I saw an ewe lambing. So I ran down there to see that is was REBA! Reba and lamb are doing great and in the pen with others born today! (It's a girl) What's funny about today and all the lambing.. The ewe that had twins earlier's name is Barbara Jean, she is the tallest ewe and we found it fitting since we already had Reba! And they lambed the same day I think we should keep the Reba trend going, should we name the new lamb Kyra and Cheyenne? Wheat Check
Gosh I don't know which view I like better.. fields of green or gold! It's a tie for me! What about you? Henrietta update:
She had time today in sling to maker her stand. I gave her a shot of LA 200 and steroid shot this afternoon! She is still happy as can be and eating and drinking perfectly! So ready for her to get better! She is on steroid shots for the next 3 days! This week at Lively H.... and the next couple of weeks here's the agenda!
Things are getting back to full agenda around here! Hopefully in about 2-3 weeks, planting will begin! Productive Saturday,
Thursday and Friday-tilled spot for garden, weeded best I could (side note: I love looking at weeds and identifying, but not in the garden) and fertilized. Today planted the following plants: 6 strawberry 4 cantaloupe 8 zuchinni 4 yellow squash 2 red sweet peppers 1 white eggplant 1 purple eggplant 6 brussel sprouts 8 tomato plants - 4 big beef variety -4 early girl variety blackberry tree Goals for tomorrow and next week:
All the sweat/work put in to garden and being shook by the tiller (a nice workout, I must say) will all be worth it when I have endless zucchini and strawberries come late spring early summer. Mrs. Henrietta, is doing therapy today!
This means we are making her stand, like a little swing, but with a come-a-long and a seed bag! That's what you call... inventions on the farm by papa! Stay tuned and I'll show you the invention, trying to get her to stand on back legs mainly just left side! She doesn't like keeping it straight! But we are working on it! She's eating and drinking good! Waiting to here back from vet! Happy Friday! |
