Moooooorning…
#4 had a baby yesterday, and #37 is still my friend after all, she was the first one to the gate this morning! Happy Saturday! • • • • • #agriculture #agrowersgranddaughter #cattle #livelyhfarms #farm365 #ag365 #farm #farmblog #blog #saturday I thought I would show off #24’s calf again from the silly video the other day! He is sired by Little Creek Bailey 5578B! This bull calf has some very unique markings! He is a couple of weeks old! Little Creek Bailey has been here at Lively H since 2017 and has continued to make great quality calves with very distinct markings! The newest four bulls purchased at Lively H Farms have been Simmental Fleckvieh! Both are easy calving bulls with low EPDS, and have great temperament! In December we should have our first calf out of Willow Oaks Drew who came on the farm at the beginning of March! I’m excited, just hoping for some heifers to keep back as replacements☺️ • • • • • #livelyhfarms #agrowersgranddaughter #agriculture #farm365 #ag365 #simmental #fleckvieh #fleckviehsimmental #simmentalfleckvieh #cattle #farmblog #calves #calving #cows #thursday #cattlefarming Sage has reported for duty on the farm!
She fed this morning, and checked the cows! #37 who i’ve been watching since Saturday after finding her in pre labor only to find out she was pushing but nothing there after checking, she was not dilated but had discharge and what looked to be some afterbirth but no sign of calf either, she wasn’t bagged up so we knew if anything she wasn’t close! But we were concerned she could prolapse with as hard as she was pushing! We put her close to chute in case she was to prolapse so we could get her in quick! Today I found her with retained fetal membranes hanging out and decided to put her in chute and check her again, it was beginning to smell! She did try on her own to push it out but she was having trouble, so I helped! Normally we let them pass afterbirth on their own, but I decided to help so she wouldn’t continue to push and prolapse , and especially with the smell I didn’t want an infection. We did give her a jab of antibiotics to help fight for infection! Again we believe she aborted, although we didn’t find anything we believe it was early stages! Hopefully this was just a little bump in the road and we can’t wait to see her calf next year! She is turned out with the new set of heifers, in the closest field so we can keep and eye on her. (swipe to see photo of what I pulled out and what I found today, below, it is “graphic” i guess to some people but it’s part of farm life) wish i could insert the smell too😂 This is not the worst thing i’ve seen nor done this is very minor! ) side note: no the membranes didn’t have dirt i just dropped them on floor when i got them out! • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #cattle #farmblog #agvocate #wishingiwenttovetschool #livestock #raisinglivestock #farm365 September 5th…Main herd at Lively H is calving… so get ready for loads of cow and calve pictures!
