Yesterday the big yellow plane flew over a couple of fields here for Lively H!
Spreading seed for cover over double crop soybean fields! Cover we are using is wheat! Yes it is being spread before harvest of soybeans, allowing for growth of cover crop ample time for germination and establishment! Advantages of cover crops- holding soil in place, protecting from wind, water and erosion. Suppressing weed populations, and improving overall soil health! Spreading aerial also allows for less compaction in field and we are able to seed before harvest of crop that is already established and in final growth stages in field! Since some of these fields are double crop soybeans they will be one of the last fields we harvest so that could mean it could be pushing for planting of wheat! So papa decided to let the plane do it which many farmers are utilizing! We will not harvest these fields spread, it simply will just have wheat for cover widespread this winter! In the spring we will plant! Yes we do harvest wheat that we have planted for cover and we will have wheat cover that we will drill this fall after soybeans harvest and will harvest in the spring! Here are a few photos I took this morning, looking at how much seed was on the ground. Pretty cool! Plant date on these soybeans: July 7 Stay tuned for video • • • • • #agriculture #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #ag365 #farm365 #farmblog
